Ben's brewery is a family run brewery set up by 3 generations of the Haydock family, all with a keen interest in beer. We believe that this generational diversity helps to bring a healthy mix of skills, experience, ideas and enthusiasm to the company.
During lock down Keith snr and Keith jr had both been at a bit of a loose end, leaving college and retiring. Keith Jnr, when asked twice (only several months apart) what he intended to do with his life, said “ I would like to brew beer” which is astonishing consistency for a teenager!
As a former Auctioneer Ben followed the auctions in the hope that something may come up and within weeks a brewery was offered for sale in a timed auction. The family quickly arranged a meeting with Ben offering a corner of his warehouse at his office furniture business to build a brewery. All the family agreed and decided that we would bid on the brewery and create a family brewery.
With his appetite whetted and full of enthusiasm and impatience Ben decided to purchase a brewery set up privately rather than gamble on the lottery of the auction (a decision that was vindicated when the one at auction went for much more money). Within a week of our meeting we had our brewery collected and we were on way on this exciting journey.
Ben's Brewery – The Build
The Name. The Theme. The Vision.
Why the name Ben's Brewery? To be totally frank we had hundreds of potential names and Ben would wake up in the early of hours of the morning with his brain going a hundred miles an hour writing ideas down. In the end he just wanted a good night's sleep and we gave up and decided “it is what it is” And Ben's brewery was born.
Ben has always been a proud Lancastrian, English & British man with a keen interest in British History and all sports with his favourites Football, Cricket & Rugby and wanted the brewery to reflect this in the naming of it's beers.
We also have sponsored Farnworth & Blackrod cricket Clubs for the season ahead as well as fundraising for Inspire Youth Zone in Chorley to help them with the excellent work they do for the young people of Chorley.
Primarily Ben wanted to do a core of 5 traditional quality beers. Being strong believers in shopping local, creating jobs locally and reducing our carbon footprint where possible we would look to get on tap at pubs as locally as possible before offering our products for sale once we are licensed.
Moving forward we are going to give Keith jr more input and we will be hoping to launch “Crafty Keith's Cans” in the near future.
